Please follow these instructions very closely or you will be very confused. Below is a new rendition of a Valentine’s song…
Instructions: Sing the below (4) verses to the rhythm and harmony of Nat King Cole’s song “L-O-V-E”.
“L” is for my favorite meal – lo mein.
“O” is for the weird-O that I am
“V” is very, very, dang prettttyyyy
“E” is everyone one show me some loooove.
Not trying to brag or anything, but I think if I was a writer for love songs that I’d blow Nat King Cole out of the water. Just kidding, but maybe if I was a writer for single ladies – although Beyonce kind of took the crown for that one, too…and who wants to compete with her? Not me! Anyway, the reason I’m writing “love songs” is pretty obvious – tomorrow is the famous holiday, Valentine’s Day! Yup, the day where pink and red hearts flood grocery stores, people’s clothing, restaurants, gifts, etc…It’s the day that love is forced onto everyone whether you want to celebrate it or not. Too bad – Hallmark says you don’t have a choice.
When people think of Valentine’s Day, a few things come to mind: A significant other, chocolate, romantic dinner and flowers. Despite what society makes you think, Valentine’s Day isn’t a day that needs to include the above checklist for it to count as a successful holiday. In fact, Valentine’s Day can be celebrated however you want to celebrate it and with whomever you want to celebrate it with.
You can celebrate Valentine’s Day with the following and still have it count….
LITERALLY WHO EVER YOU WANT TO.
But here are some real suggestions:
- Significant other
- Mom + Dad (Just Mom or just Dad)
- Friends (otherwise known as the best holiday ever, by the best fictional character, Leslie Knope – GALENTINE’S DAY)
- Stranger (Get on the ol’ Tinder and meet someone)
Yes, Valentine’s Day is about “love”, but it’s up to you to define what that “love” is to you and what kind you want to celebrate.
Ask yourself: “Who or what in your life do you appreciate that you want to take the time to show your love for?”
No matter who you decide to celebrate it with, I challenge you to try something new. So this Valentine’s Day, instead of wishing you had someone to share it with – wake up and realize you do! You have the best person ever by your side at all times – yourself 🙂 Why not write a love letter about all the things you adore about yourself and read it while sipping a glass of wine and eating chocolates? Why not take yourself out on a date; I bet you’d love a pedicure or a fancy feast! Even if you have a significant other, you deserve to love yourself and show appreciation for all that you do.
I read this quote once that said something along the lines of “How long does it take you to mention yourself when you list the things you love?”. My first thought was, “Well, you’re going to be waiting a long time, because it’s not coming”. And the following thought was, “Why the heck wouldn’t I mention myself? I enjoy my company. I think I’m funny, I try hard to be the best version of myself”….blah, blah blah.
What I’m trying to say is that women tend to struggle with loving and valuing themselves as important to oneself, and this is the perfect day to practice this. So please, take a second out of your day tomorrow to TREAT YO’ SELF! And then go on about all the cheesy, lovey dovey stuff that makes Valentine’s Day the fun holiday it is!
Happy Valentine’s Day, my loves!
Peace. Love. Amore.
